AMSOIL Synthetic 80W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube is recommended for use under various combinations of high-speed, shock loads, low speeds and high torque conditions. It is recommended for use in all light and heavy-duty, automotive, commercial or industrial applications requiring SAE 80W-90 EP gear lube. AMSOIL Synthetic 80W-90 Gear Lube replaces all conventional 80W-90 gear oils and exceeds the lubrication and performance requirements of front and rear differentials, transfer cases, transaxles, manual transmissions, oil lubricated wheel bearings, and steering gear boxes that require any of the following specifications:
• API GL-5 & MT-1
• MIL-PRF-2105E
• Dana SHAES 234 (Formerly Eaton PS-037) for 250,000 miles
• MACK GO-J
• Arvin/Meritor 0-76D plus hypoid gear oil specifications from all domestic and foreign manufacturers such as GM, Ford and Daimler Chrysler.
• Can also be used rear axles where API Service GL-4 lubricant is recommended.
AMSOIL 80W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube is a multi-functional product designed to surpass the requirements of equipment and automotive applications calling for an SAE 80W-90 viscosity grade. Formulated with wax-free synthetic base oils and high quality additives, AMSOIL 80W-90 Synthetic Gear Lube resists thermal breakdown. Its naturally high viscosity index and shear stable construction improves film strength and viscosity retention. AMSOIL Synthetic 80W-90 Gear Lube prevents wear, resists heat, and protects gears. It lasts longer in service than conventional gear oils and increases equipment life.
AMSOIL Synthetic 80W-90 Gear Lube provides:
• High Load Gear and Bearing Protection
• Longer Oil and Equipment Life
• Lower Maintenance Costs
• Compatibility With Conventional and Synthetic Gear Lubes
• Multi-functional for Multiple Applications
For product service life in differentials, consult your owners manual or the Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) to establish the application, NORMAL or SEVERE.
NORMAL | SEVERE | |
Cars, SUV, Light & Medium Duty Trucks | Drain at 100,000 miles of service or according to the owners manual, whichever is longer | Drain at 50,000 miles of service or according to the owners manual, whichever is longer |
Heavy Duty Class 8 Truck, Commercial Equipment | Follow the OEM drain interval (miles or hours) for synthetic oil up to 250,000 miles. Otherwise, drain at twice the OEM interval for conventional oil. | Follow the OEM drain interval (miles or hours) for synthetic oil. Otherwise, drain at twice the OEM interval for conventional oil. |
For product service life in non-differential applications, consult owners manual or the OEM for either normal or severe synthetic oil service intervals. Where service intervals are unavailable, drain at twice the interval for conventional oil.
Note: AMSOIL does not support extended drain intervals where water contamination occurs. Check and service the gear oil frequently when water contamination is possible.
Gear oils should be changed more frequently when operating vehicles or equipment in dusty or dirty conditions unless the gear system is properly sealed and equipped with membrane type breathers.
AMSOIL SYNTHETIC 80W-90 GEAR LUBE is compatible with synthetic and conventional gear oils, however mixing oils reduces the benefits and nullifies the extended service life recommendations.
AMSOIL 80W-90 SYNTHETIC GEAR LUBE is compatible with most limited slip differentials. If limited slip differential chatter occurs, add AMSOIL Slip-Lock friction modifier additive.
AMSOIL has optimized gear lube performance for specific operating conditions. However, AMSOIL gear lubes are multi-functional and may be used in many different applications. This chart conveys the best AMSOIL recommendation based on product design and operating environment.
First row product recommendations offer superior performance in the respective applications. Second row product recommendations offer excellent performance in the respective applications. The third row is exclusive to SAE 80W-90 viscosity.
AMSOIL Severe Gear® 75W-90 (SVG), 75W-110 (SVT) and 75W-140 (SVO) synthetic gear lubes have a performance emphasis on the extreme pressure and high heat of todays vehicle differentials.
AMSOIL Long Life 75W-90 (FGR) and 80W-140 (FGO) synthetic gear lubes have a performance emphasis on 500,000 mile extended drain intervals associated with larger sumps and lower operating temperatures of over-the-road truck differentials.
AMSOIL 75W-90 synthetic gear lubes will outperform conventional 80W-90 gear oils in all applications and may be used as a replacement.AMSOIL offers 80W-90 (AGL) synthetic gear lube for those customers requiring this specific viscosity grade.

I have been using the Synthetic 80W-90W Gear Lube in the Transmission and Final Drive unit of my 2001 BMW R1150GS motorcycle or years. It never breaks down between changes even though I ride in 1st and 2nd gear for hours on Utah desert roads for hours at a time. shifting is always silky smooth. I highly recommend Amsoil Synthetic Gear Lube wherever the motorcycle specs call for Gear Lube. If your Transmission also houses a "wet clutch" be sure to research the correct Amsoil product to use with a "wet clutch" as there is a special requirement to insure that "wet clutches" won't slip.
We go on two week trips every year on which we average about 5,000 miles and I have had not problems :-)

It's a gear oil... I just poured it in about a week ago. Can't really say anything yet. I suppose it does what it should. I actually overfilled the rear differential because my truck was on the hill when I changed the oil, so I wanted to make it right and parked on the leveled surface today and unscrewed the fill plug. About 6 oz of oil came out. I noticed its color and translucency changed after a week of driving. It was noticeably darker. About 150 miles. But to me it means that synthetic stuff cleans the dirt and residue that was left there from my old conventional oil. I might need to do another differential change shortly then I expected. But after that second change - I would leave it alone for a loooong time....
I would buy again
